Who am I?

My name is Ro Goold formerly Sinclair.
BSc (Gen Sc) Dip Ed Sydney University.

I worked in the Alcohol and Other Drug field for over a decade in the 1970s and 1980s in the following roles:

  1. Community Alcoholism Counsellor
    1977 to 1980
    Role - Community educator / counsellor and mental health team leader for 18 months,
    NSW Health Commission

  2. Staff Trainer/ Senior Health Education Officer
    NSW Division of Drug and Alcohol Services

    1980 to 1983
    Role - Facilitating and consulting of staff development training programs on Alcohol and Other Drugs for professionals in a variety of settings.

  3. Founding Director CEIDA
    NSW Centre for Education and Information on Drugs and Alcohol
    Role - Facilitating the development of CEIDA , providing leadership for all aspects of CEIDA’s state-wide services, and providing consultancy to the NSW Alcohol & Drug Authority and the NSW Health, other departments and community organisations.

    Note: Until 2000 when its services were to be reabsorbed into central administration from its base at Rozelle Hospital, CEIDA provided the following state wide services:

    NSW State Drug and Alcohol Specialty Library

    Connexions Magazine on Alcohol and Other Drugs for Professionals - bi-monthly issues with national as well as state subscribers

    NSW Information Services - state-wide service providing information, fact sheets and other literature to D&A workers, schools and the general public.


    NSW Resource Development Unit - producing fact sheets, pamphlets, resources kit, videos etc. for a variety of target groups. e.g The AIDS epidemic required specialist resources for IV Drug users.

    NSW Training Services - state-wide service providing seminars, workshops, courses and consultancy to D&A workers, government department and non-profit organisations


    PACE Community Education Project - state-wide service providing community development and awareness programs and resources for a variety of target groups.

    QUIT FOR LIFE - Anti-smoking mass media project (from 1988)

    STAY IN CONTROL - Alcohol Awareness mass media project (from 1988)

    Most of these services were lost in this administrative move in 2000.


    Other roles: I have worked as a High School Science Teacher, Community Disability Coordinator, Frail Aged and Disability Carer Support Coordinator and as a Civil Marriage, Family and Funeral Celebrant.
